From momentary reflections to stories about his break with childhood and adolescence, the early introduction to the Big World, the discovery of romance and then love, the powerlessness of ordinary people, the weaknesses that end in disappointment and the strengths that help them seek redemption and belonging. This story leaves Vincent in the throes of desperation and an unwillingness to accept. Instead of the publisher information, type "Retrieved from" -- without quotation marks -- and the URL, with no ending punctuation, as in this example: Gordimer, N. (2000).

Lovecraft - Next comes that dean of cosmic horror, H. (Howard) P. (Phillips) Lovecraft (1890-1937). The young people's challenges are broad and diverse, and the settings range from high school to hospital environments. If you're used to reading only one genre, you may be surprised that you like other, or overlapping, genres when you are exposed to quality examples. If youve never read anything by Tim Curran this is a good place to start.

Comic horror is not unheard of in the horror genre: most authors lighten up their collections with one or two entirely comedic tales. As you edit your stories, perform a realism audit: Read through your dialogue aloud. The 1960s and ’70s witness an uptick in explicit portrayals of sex (John Updike) and violence (Joyce Carol Oates), as well as the emergence of grim minimalism (Raymond Carver) and antic collage-driven postmodernism (Donald Barthelme).
